Mariposa Lodge is now known as one of the most sought after lodges in the island of Roatan, Honduras. The lodge was constructed in the late 90s to fulfill the need for a place to stay for the divers visiting Roatan. They had trouble finding accommodation which is how the Mariposa Lodge came into being. The lodge has been kept reasonably priced but top quality in comfort and service. It has been built among the beautiful green foliage of the Roatan plants and trees, which makes it an extremely picturesque spot. Mariposa Lodge affords the guests a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, quality service, discrete staff and a general air of tranquility.
Mariposa Lodge lies in almost the exact heart of West Lodge, about 100 meters from the beach in Roatan, Honduras. It is situated on a grassy hill, encircled by the famous tropical foliage of Roatan. The lodge is only a few minutes’ walk from the main village where there are dive shops, restaurants, and several culture shops. The location provides stunning views along with a cool breeze blowing in from the Caribbean Sea, almost every evening.
The management at the Mariposa Lodge asks the guests to stay for a minimum of 2 nights, no less than that. The dates can be further extended, depending upon the availability of the rooms. The lodge has apartments, limited rooms and a three bedroom house. The apartments contain the basic amenities like a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and a convenient supply of kitchen utensils, along with some pots, pans and cutlery. There are convenience stores nearby which make it easy to stock up on food supplies without venturing too far from the lodge. There are spacious decks and beautiful gardens which make it a pleasure to stay in such a place. The other small rooms are fully air conditioned and contain small refrigerators, coffee makers, toasters, microwaves, and a deck complete with a hammock. The three bedroom house is very comfortable and reasonably priced. Two of the bedrooms contain a double bed each and the third room has two single beds. The kitchen area is spacious and airy, containing a fridge, four burner gas stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and the basic provisions for cooking meals. There is also an open deck with a covered top, including a hammock, a table and chairs.
Beach and water sports are always popular on the island. Most guests enjoy surfing and snorkeling or just lying on the beach to de-stress and sunbathe. Water taxis are also available for the guests to rent out along with kayaks and boats. Tours can be organized to explore the island and the gift shops, Carambola Gardens, Iguana farm, jungle canopy of West Bay Mountainside, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, night snorkeling and of course diving.
There are plenty of diving packages available at Mariposa Lodge, as they work in close partnership with West End Divers and Splash Inn Dive Resort. The packages are very reasonable and the instructors are fully qualified and experienced.
There are many local cafes and restaurants on the island serving food of different cuisines for very affordable prices. These provide local flavor, cultural awareness and three delicious meals a day.
